How to analyze an extract of a text

At Paihia School Te Ngahere have been making scripts for when we screencastify so we can teach others how to analyze an extract of a text that we have chosen so that people can find the types of moods and atmospheres in the text. The text I chose was The Promise. It’s about children that are stuck inside a bunker. What I thought was hard was trying to state the mood or atmosphere in the text because I couldn’t think of a mood that describes the extract. What I thought was easy was probably the introduction because we already had an example video so I just wrote some of the lines from that video. Have you done a screencastify before?

An Interesting Cricket Game

On Wednesday this week we learnt how to play cricket. It got boring after a few minutes. At least for me, probably because we just did the same thing over and over. I think my team won but I lost track over time because I was thinking about other stuff. We also did some practice before. What I thought was easy was when we practiced batting the ball because it was easier. What I thought was hard was when we had to catch the ball because sometimes it would go too far away. Have you played cricket before?

A Trip To Auckland

One week ago I went to Auckland with my family to visit my brother. It was quite boring. Mostly because my parents came this time. They don’t really like to do anything but go to mall. After 3 or 4 hours we finally arrived at my brothers house which used to be our old house. After a day we went to the mall and ate and did a bit of shopping before going back home and playing video games. We basically did nothing but stay home all day.  What I liked was when I got to play video games with my brother mostly because I never get to spend time with him. What I thought was boring was having to stay home all day and do nothing. What do you like to do in Auckland?

Interesting Spiral Maori Art

In Te Ngahere at Paihia School we have been doing some mahi toi. We were learning to draw continuous lines, draw curves and blend colours. To begin our art we started practicing drawing it on paper that already had the art on it so we just traced over it and most of us are still practicing. We also had to blend colors. What I thought was hard was probably when I had to blend the colors because I didn’t really know how to blend. What I thought was easy was when I had to trace it because all I needed to do was draw over the lines. What colours would you use?

The Sound Of Music

On Thursday this week at Paihia School in Te Ngahere we have been doing some music on Google Music Lab. Google Music Lab is a website that makes learning music easier and fun. We’ve done three lessons. The rhythm lesson, the melody lesson and the Kandinsky lesson. What I thought was hard was probably when I had to come up with a beat because I didn’t know how to make music. What I think I could do better next time is maybe try to actually make music instead of mucking around with it. What type of music would you make?

The Explanation Of Newton’s Law

Last week we have been learning to write about bottle rockets but before we started writing we made a plan. In our plan we decided what the name of the title is going to be, what the paragraphs are going to be about and some more stuff. Then we started to write. What I thought was hard was probably when I had to decide what to write for paragraph 2 because I didn’t know what to write but then I eventually figured it out. What I thought was easy was maybe when I had to come up with a title because all I needed to do was come up with the title and write it. Do you understand Newton’s law of motion?

The Wonder Launch

In Te Ngahere we have been continuing the Wonder Project. During that time my group has been modifying our rocket and launching it. Our first launch wasn’t that successful then we modified it by making the fins stronger and changing the fin design. Our second launch wasn’t that successful either. What I thought was easy was probably when I had to do someone else's job when they were away because I didn’t really know what to do. What I think I could do better next time is try to contribute more. What fin design would you have used if you did this?

The Importance Of Kawa Of Care

For a few weeks at Paihia School in Te Ngahere we have been learning about the rules of Kawa of Care. The Kawa of Care is some rules that you have to follow to ensure the care and responsibility of Chromebooks. The rules are to not have food or drinks around your chromebook because it could cause some damage to it and a couple of more rules. We also had to create something like a poster or animation to show the importance of Kawa of Care. What I thought was hard was probably when I had to create something because I didn’t really know what to do for a poster but eventually I found out a way. What I thought was easy was maybe when I decided to make an animation instead because an animation is more easy but it would of took long to finish it which is why I decided to do a poster. Would you do a poster or animation if you did this?

Stories That Show And Not Tell

On Monday this week we did a new type of t-shape. We had to write examples of ways the author showed how someone was feeling about themselves, others and also what type of person the characters are and more. What I thought was hard was probably when I had to write something that has happened but wasn’t directly stated in the story because I couldn’t find an example. What I thought was easy was maybe when I had to read the story because all I needed to do was read it. What I think I could do better next time is  make sure I read the text properly so I can find some examples to write. Would you be able to find some examples if you did this?

Where Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Comes Alive (Wonder Project)

Week 2 this term at Paihia School in Te Ngahere we did the Wonder Project. The Wonder Project was lead by two guys named Troy and Gustavo. We were learning  Newton's laws of motion and how to make, modify and use a rocket. The day before that we all got into groups of 5 or 4. When Troy and Gustavo finished introducing themself we all made a copy of the progress chart and we also made a copy of the wonder project slideshow so that we can show our work. What I thought was frustrating was probably picking a job to do cause I didn’t know what I wanted to be but eventually I picked one. What I thought was easy was  when we had to do the progress chart because all we needed to do was come up with our group name, write who’s in our group and write who is leading the wonder project. What job would you pick if you were doing this?

Behind The Scenes

On Monday last week we started making some movies. We first had to get into groups of 4 and then we had to make a script. Before that we also came up with characters and decided what props we use and what the location we are going to record it. After all that we started on the script. We still  haven’t started on filming it though. What I thought was hard was the script because it takes a very long time to come up with the words that the characters are saying. What I thought was easy was probably when we made the slideshow because we got a link to a pdf and it had everything we needed to do so we just made that into separate slides. What I think I could do better next time is maybe make sure that we pay attention to our work so we can get it done faster. What would your movie be about?

What I learnt about rockets from my panui

On Monday at Paihia School in Te Ngahere we learnt some panui about rockets. We used T-Shape to learn and tell what variables the people in the book changed, what the design process was and more. What I thought was hard was probably when I had to explain Newton's laws of motion because I just didn't understand and I had trouble trying to explain the relevance of Newton's law of motion. What I thought was easy was probably when I had to tell what variables they changed because in the story they basically just tell you what they changed. What I think I could do better next time is to make sure that I understand so I can get my work done faster. Would you be able to understand Newton’s law of motion if you did our Panui?

The New Type Of Art We Did (Mosaic)

On Friday at Paihia School in Te Ngahere we did a new type of art. We did some Mosaic art. A mosaic is a picture/pattern produced by arranging together small pieces of stone, tiles & more. We could choose to make an animal or a person. I picked to make a person and decided to make Mr Beast, who is a famous youtuber and entertainer. What I thought was hard was probably when I had to do the t-shirt because it took the longest. What I thought was easy was probably when I was finished because all I needed to do now was remove the picture and put it on our art slide. What I think I could do better next time is to make sure that there isn’t any shapes touching each other because when I finished I saw a shape touching another shape which was not supposed to happen. Who/what would you make?

Time For A New Type Of Maths

On Monday at Paihia School in Te Ngahere we did some new maths. We had to figure out more ways to solve 16 x 8. I figured out that 32 x 4 and some other equations that I don’t remember also makes 16 x 8 which equals to 128. What I thought was hard was probably when I had to try and find more ways to solve it because I didn’t know any other equations that also equal 128. What I thought was easy was when I found out an equation because all I needed to do was go 32 across and 4down. What I think I could do better next time is maybe listen to the teacher so I understand and know what to do. Would you be able to find out more ways to solve 16 x 8?

When I Did A Math DLO

Last week at Paihia School in Te Ngahere we did a math DLO. DLO stands for digital learning object. We were learning to use a protractor to use angles. For our math DLO we had to explain how to use a protractor to use angles and measure degrees. What I thought was hard was trying to explain how to do it because I didn’t have any ideas on how to explain it but eventually I explained it because I got some of my friends to help me. What I thought was easy was doing the math equation because I understood what do to unlike the Math DLO.  What I think I could do better next time is maybe try to make sure that my explanation makes more sense. How would you measure degrees?

When I Did A Narrative Writing

On Thursday last week at Paihia School  Te Ngahere did some narrative writing. Our writing topic was a flu pandemic(covid-19). In my story a new virus is born and kills people. The people didn’t know why people were dying until four guys named Donald,
Steve, Zack, Lee figured out why and they went back in time to stop the virus. My focus was to make sure I have several Ideas with some extra information and also choose words that want to make people read my story .What I thought was hard was probably the second paragraph because I didn’t really know what to write for it. What I thought was easy was the last paragraph because I actually knew what to write. What I think I could do better next time is probably add more detail and descriptive words so that the readers are interested.

When I Did A New Type Of Art

On Thursday  week 8 in Te Ngahere at Paihia School we did a new type of art called poupou art. To draw it we had to fold the paper into thirds and fold it in half. After that we drew a heart shape at the top of the paper then we drew a heart inside of the heart so it looks like a mouth. We then drew the nose and the eyes and the head. After that we drew the body, arms, legs and then the patterns. Once we were done with that we went onto a bigger piece of paper and drew it on there. After that we drew over the lines with vivid and then we coloured it. What I thought was hard was probably the patterns because I mostly didn’t know what kind of patterns to put on the body. What I thought was easy was probably folding it because all you need to do is… well fold it. What I think I could do better next time is maybe do some more creative patterns.

The Time I Did A Trickshot

On Monday at Paihia School Te Ngahere did some trickshot. We had to throw a ping pong ball into a cup in a creative way. It also had to bounce off a surface, have cardboard and take at least 3 seconds. When we made the trickshot and got it on camera we had to make a reflection. My group trickshot was get some chairs, get a box and put the cup in there, put a ramp made out of cardboard on the chair so that it would land in the cup then we throw the ball. What I thought was hard was trying to make the ball go into the cup because we had to stay in a spot so we could get it in the cup. What I thought was easy was nothing everything was hard but at least we got the trickshot because we never gave up. What I think I could do better next time is stop changing the ideas and stick to one because if we stuck to one idea we probably would of gotten the trickshot faster. How would you do your trickshot?

Do I have my maths eyes?

In Te Ngahere we have been doing some maths about our maths eyes. We did maths about gingerbread men and we had to notice stuff about them. We copied a slideshow on our class site and did the stuff the questions on it ask us what do to and did another activity after it. I noticed that all the buttons were different colours and that they `all have hats on.What i think i could do better next time is notice more things so that i can make a better blog post about it. What I thought was hard was noticing more stuff because i didn't really see anything different about them.what i thought was easy was the slideshow because we just needed to do the stuff the questions on there asked us. Do you have maths eyes?

What is Maths Whizz

On the 25th of February at Paihia School in Te Ngahere we went on a website called Maths Whizz. Math Whizz is a tool for helping your maths education. It's good for both helping you overcome your  weaker topics while also building on your strengths. When we got on we were handed a piece of paper with our username and password. When we got on the website we had to type in our username and password to login then we had to answer math questions and after we answered all the questions we got to make an avatar then we had to do panui. What I thought was hard were the measurement questions because I don’t understand how much is a centimeter or millimeter. What I thought was easy was the questions 1253 x 10 because I just had to times the number by tens which was easy. What I think I could do better next time is maybe get better at maths so I can get more points.

Mind-blowing facts about cybersmart

Last week on Monday in Te Ngahere the people that did not go swimming did cybersmart. We had to go to the digital dig slide on the Te Ngahere website and make a copy. After that we had to go to slide 2 which had a image of a chromebook keyboard and take a screenshot of the shortcut to screenshot and put it on the next slide. Then we had to take a screenshot of our desktop. On the next slide It asked us what was the shortcut to find the find bar which was ctrl f. After that we had to watch a video which told us the keyboard shortcuts. When we finished watching the video we went to the next slide where we had to answer all the keyboard shortcuts. I'm not going to do the rest because I wont have space to write. What I thought was frustrating was where we had to answer all the keyboard shortcut because I had try and find it out on Google. What I thought was easy was where we had to put in our face in a frame because we just needed to take a picture of us and put in a frame. What I think I can do better next time is that I could of drawn better on sumo paint when we had to make what we were looking forward to this year.

Turbo Touch

On Thursday January the 30th at Paihia School Te Ngahere went outside and played a new game called Turbo Touch. Turbo Touch is a game where you get into a group of 3,4,5 or 6 and you and your team pass the ball to each other sideways, backwards and forwards just no kicking. If you drop the ball you handover the ball to the other team. To score a touchdown two passes must be made to a open the active zone. What I thought was hard was trying to score because the ball keeps dropping. What I thought was easy was passing to each other because we were good at passing. What I could do better next time is to come up with more strategies so we get more points.
