In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method for our science fair. I learnt that the scientific method is a method that uses a hypothesis, questions, gathering information, etc. We also made a infographic that showed the steps of the scientific method. I think that I will use this in the future for when I learn about science or do the science fair. What I think I did well in was making the infographic because I put the steps in order and created a good design. What I think I could do better next time is maybe add a bit more detail and try to put it in my words. Have you made an infographic before?

The Extraordinary Science Roadshow
On Monday we went to the Bay of Islands College Science Roadshow to learn about science and to get some ideas for our science fair. We learnt about the different types of gases like oxygen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and more. We also learnt that 21% of the air around us is oxygen, 1% of the air is hydrogen, etc and that 78% of the air is nitrogen. After all of that we went to check out the exhibit. My favourite exhibit was the one where you had to jump and stick the thing on the pole because it was fun to do and I got to see how high I could jump. What I learnt about fair testing was that you only change one variable. I think I might use it in the future for our science fair to change and modify. Have you done a science fair before?

Being Smart Online
In Te Ngahere we have been learning about “Smart Relationships.” We had to first watch a video that showed a relationship between a grown man and a little girl that had a profile on a website that showed her personal information. The little girl didn’t know that he was a grown man since they were in a open chat room. She also got bullied about it at school because one of her bullies found her profile. The people that made the video showed it in real life though for example the grown man walking into her room which was her chatroom and more. After we had watched the video we made a slideshow where we had to write what information she shared, the main points the video is trying to make, etc. When we were done with that we could either make a DLO, animation or poster with your group. My group decided to make an animation but we still haven’t finished it. What I’ll do differently in the future is try not to share personal information that I don’t want going around. What will you do differently in the future?

The Interesting Life Cycle Of Animals That Live In The Ngahere
In Te Ngahere we have been creating a Ngahere presentation about an animal that lives in the Ngahere. Before we made the presentation we had to make a doc that had information about the animal that you choose to do. You had to show and talk about where the animal lives, what does it eat, what does it do in Te Ngahere, etc. The animal that my group chose was called the Gray’s Tree Gecko. We added some animations to the animals so that it matches with what we are talking about. What I thought was hard was when I had to animate because the animations were confusing to use and control. Also I didn’t really participated in that much so what I think I could do better next time is maybe work more with the group so that I could have at least participated in some more stuff. The Interesting Life Cycle Of Animals That Live In The Ngahere

What is the author describing?
In Te Ngahere for reading we have been learning how to understand what we read when the meaning is not clear or stated correctly in a text. We had to make a copy of a doc that had a short poem on it describing something but it didn’t tell us what it was so we had to guess it and the poem would get longer and longer making it harder for us. We had to type what we thought it was and then type why we thought that. We did two poems. The first one was describing something that cut grass and the second one was describing something in the sky. I think I did well doing the first part of the second poem because it just described something that could fly so I would have to say something that flies but the second part of the poem got me stuck but that was because I was daydreaming and not focusing on the poem. What I think I could do better next time is maybe focus more on what the author is trying to describe instead of just daydreaming

Our Extraordinary Technology
On Tuesday the year seven and eights went to technology at Moerewa School. The year sevens did cooking while the year eights did woodcrafting and I had to craft since I was a year eight. The teachers names were Mr E who was teaching woodcrafting and Whaea Dot who was teaching cooking. Mr E first explained the rules in his class then we took a test about the rules. He showed us how the tool works then we played around with the tools until morning teas. After morning tea we got a block of wood to make the Waka and drew an oval shape for the waka by measuring. Then we drilled a hole in the oval and cut it out but unfortunately I never got to the cutting part. What I thought was hard was when I had to measure it because sometimes the measurements were incorrect and then you had to rub it out then do it again till it was perfect since close enough is not good enough which was kinda annoying. What I think I could do better next time is maybe pay more attention so that I can get my work done faster.
